Craft times are a-coming…

Back in January, I made a huge mistake. I signed myself up for a chain-letter, pyramid-scheme, evil Facebook peer pressure Craft…Thing. Here’s the fine print-

Pay it Forward in 2011: I promise to send something handmade to the first 5 people who leave a comment here. They must in turn post this and send something they make to the first 5 people who comment on their status. The rules are that it must be handmade by you and it must be sent to your 5 people sometime in 2011.

Yeah, that. So, now I’ve been kind of obsessed about what the what I’m going to make for these “friends” of mine. And we’ve already lost a quarter of 2011.

Lucky for me (well, not me, my “friends”), it’s Michael’s Customer Appreciation Week! 25% off all manner of crafty nonsense. Sounds good, I guess, except that I don’t know where my nearest Michael’s is since I’ve recently moved, and I’d much prefer to buy someone’s discarded craft debris from Etsy. But I should explore the neighborhood, and I can’t get packages delivered here (theives abound!).

Fine, Michael’s, you win. I’m going to do some cross-stitching. Perhaps “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts. Can’t Lose!”, in anticipation of the return of Friday Night Lights. And, like any decent Ginsoak craft project, it’s already on Etsy, so I can give up half-way through and just buy it instead…

Let’s discuss cookie cakes, shall we?

It’s just been announced that Prince William has requested a Cookie Cake for his wedding next month. CNN weighed in with a lame-ass slideshow, but no decent cookie-cake simulations for our eyeballs, so I’ll step up where they failed.

Don’t get it twisted, these pans make an awesome-looking cake:

Well played, Wills. Well played.

First things first- The GC-TC

The GC Tom Collins

The Ginsoak Collective is committed to the very best in guilty pleasures, be it the CW, microwavable desserts, or sneezing pandas.  But obviously, the wonder of gin is at the very top of our list. The pinnacle, if you will. So, before we proceed, we bring you the official drink of the GC, our version of the classic Tom Collins.

THE GC-TC

Here’s what you’ll need:

gc tom collins ingredients

One (1) Pint Glass [yes, there is a glass named after this drink, but, honestly, it’s too small]

Four (4) Ice Cubes [not shown]

Two-ish (2.5) shots of  Good Gin [we prefer the Hendricks]

One (1) lemon’s worth of juice

One (1) tablespoon of sugar

Enough club soda to fill the pint glass

Three (3) or more cherries, from a jar, stems removed.

Combine all ingredients except cherries and stir like made with a chopstick. Then add cherries. Drink. Repeat.
